World Water Day 2023

March Brings Awareness for the Vital Role of Plumbing and Water Conservation

The month of March has two days that recognize the Plumbing Industry for their critical roles in water conservation: World Water Day and World Plumbing Day! We need to come together to raise awareness about the importance of safeguarding our water resources and making sure that everyone has access to safe drinking water.

Water is used daily for a variety of different tasks. From drinking, food preparation and personal hygiene, to industrial uses and agricultural processes, water is essential in our lives. At the same time, it’s estimated that 10% of the world’s population still lives without access to safe drinking water and even more lack access to proper sanitation.

On World Plumbing Day, it’s important to recognize the role that plumbing plays in our efforts
to ensure everybody’s access to safe, clean water. Plumbers help develop the infrastructure
that delivers freshwater to our homes, keeping our drinking water safe, and plays a role in the
management of wastewater.

We must remember that water is a limited resource and many around the world are facing
water shortages. That’s why it’s important to take steps to conserve water. Here are a few tips
for reducing your water consumption:

  • Install water-efficient fixtures, such as low-flow toilets, showerheads, and faucets.
  • Collect and use rainwater for outdoor activities.
  • Reuse water for multiple purposes. For example, don’t pour leftover cooking water down the drain. Instead, use it to water plants.
  • Don’t leave the tap running while brushing your teeth or washing dishes.
  • Avoid flushing the toilet unnecessarily.

Let’s take a moment to celebrate both World Water Day and World Plumbing Day and
remember the important role they both play in improving access to safe water around the
world. Working together, we can create a world in which everyone has access to clean water
and sanitation services.
